Key information
Leaked footage of the cancelled Perfect Dark reboot has surfaced online, providing a look at the project developed by The Initiative and Crystal Dynamics. Originally announced in December 2020, the title faced significant development challenges before its eventual cancellation as part of Microsoft's 2025 corporate cuts.
The two-minute video, initially reported by MP1ST, showcases early gunplay, various environments, and specific character abilities. The footage features protagonist Joanna Dark navigating through levels and utilizing different weapons, alongside minor details like destructible objects.
Development of the reboot was marked by reports of slow progress and a rough state as of May 2024. Although a trailer released shortly after those reports briefly restored optimism, the project was ultimately scrapped. The game was intended to follow an episodic structure.
While the authenticity of the leaked material remains unverified, it is attributed to a VFX artist with industry experience. Following the cancellation, rumors regarding a potential acquisition of the rights by Take-Two did not materialize.
