Key information
Funcom has officially initiated a corporate restructuring process, narrowing its strategic focus exclusively toward the survival sandbox titles Conan Exiles and Dune: Awakening. This shift in operational priority is intended to align the company's resources with the long-term development and maintenance of these two specific projects.
The reorganization involves a reduction in staff, resulting in an unspecified number of layoffs. The studio stated that this process is currently underway and declined to provide further details regarding the affected employees out of respect for those involved until the transition concludes.
CEO Rui Casais will step down from his position by the end of the year, with Chief Product Officer Scott Junior appointed as his successor. Casais explained that the transition from full production to post-launch operations necessitates a different organizational structure, noting that the company cannot maintain the workforce size required during peak development phases.
This announcement follows previous workforce reductions in 2025, which impacted developers working on the console version of Dune: Awakening. Despite the game's successful launch, the studio continues to adjust its internal structure to accommodate its current development lifecycle.
