Key information
Final Fantasy Resonance emerged from the closure of the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, featuring pixel-first HD-2D sprite work and a modernised turn-based combat system. A free demo was released following Gamescom 2026, where the game was previewed.
According to director Hiroto Furuya and producer Keisuke Nakashima in an interview with Kotaku, the development team experimented with combining the job system from 1992's Final Fantasy 5 with the unique character characteristics of 1994's Final Fantasy 6. The studio also incorporated elements inspired by the stagger system found in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series and Final Fantasy 16.
The game incorporates 'Visions', which represent characters from the series' past, despite a point in development when the team considered excluding them. Final Fantasy Resonance is scheduled to launch on 22nd October for PC via Steam, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S.
