Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi addressed player demands for a full physical disc version. He stated that he did his utmost to advocate for physical media amid an industry shift toward digital releases.
When the title releases on 8th April 2027 across multiple platforms, physical copies for Xbox Series X and PS5 will function as a key disc featuring only the opening, requiring a substantial download to complete the game.
Hamaguchi clarified that while he managed creative aspects, publishing decisions like stock keeping units fell to the publishing team. Nevertheless, he engaged in internal and first-party negotiations to secure the single-disc option.
The game arrives in 2027 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2. Hamaguchi expressed hope that physical formats will persist, though he envisions a future where boxes contain only printed codes.
