Key information

Paramount Pictures has officially announced plans to produce a live-action film adaptation of the video game Cyberpunk 2077. The project is currently in development with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who is collaborating directly with the original game's creator, CD Projekt Red.

The narrative will be set within the futuristic Night City, a California metropolis dominated by powerful megacorporations. The plot centers on V, a mercenary who inadvertently acquires a cybernetic implant containing the consciousness of Johnny Silverhand, a former rock star and terrorist. The pair must work together to separate their minds, save V's life, and challenge the Arasaka corporation.

This cinematic venture follows the significant commercial success of the source material. CD Projekt Red reports that the base game has surpassed 40 million copies sold globally, while the Phantom Liberty expansion has reached 15 million units sold.

Paramount is expanding its portfolio of video game adaptations. The studio is currently involved in the production of a new Street Fighter film, scheduled for release on October 16, and is also developing a project based on the Call of Duty franchise, which is being written by Peter Berg and Taylor Sheridan.
