Key information

The Federal Bureau of Investigation announced the arrest of a suspect in Pennsylvania connected to a September cyberattack against the agency. This individual is described as a primary co-conspirator in the breach, which resulted in the theft of personal data belonging to current and former employees, as well as job applicants.

The hacking group ShinyHunters has been linked to numerous high-profile breaches throughout the year, including an April attack on Rockstar Games. The group reportedly extorted over $70 million after compromising more than 140 institutions, including JCPenny, GrubHub, and the European Commission.

FBI director Kash Patel stated that the agency remains committed to disrupting the remaining members of the group. This recent arrest follows the detention of a ShinyHunters leader by the Dutch National Police last month.

Separately, Rockstar Games has faced significant frustration regarding unauthorized gameplay leaks of GTA 6. Despite these incidents, the title is scheduled for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
