Key information
An anonymous group of fans successfully developed a port allowing GTA V to run directly through a web browser. Players could access the project via playgta5.com, where reports indicated they could smoothly experience the opening mission and explore portions of the Los Santos area.
The unauthorized browser version utilized WebAssembly technology. It required downloading about 700 MB of data for local execution in the browser rather than functioning as a video stream.
Gamer speculation suggests that publisher Take-Two intervened to remove the port, given the company's history of shutting down similar unofficial projects like the Nintendo Switch port. Meanwhile, a Twitter user known as @4k_isn discovered that the creator publicly offered the project's source code to interested parties.
As of the 7/10 publication date, the playgta5.com website has been taken down and is no longer accessible, displaying a connection timed out error code 522 instead of the game.
