Epic Games is shifting its development strategy for an unannounced Disney-themed shooter, mandating an AI-first approach to complete the project. This title, which features characters from Marvel and Star Wars, has been delayed from its original March release window.

The development team has been instructed to utilize AI tools such as Anthropic’s Claude to generate both code and art. Internal communications reportedly directed staff to cease hand-written coding, with expectations that all game art will be produced through full AI workflows.

Epic Games spokesperson Jake Jones confirmed the company is embracing AI-accelerated development. This project represents a significant component of a multiyear collaboration between Epic and Disney, following Disney’s $1.5 billion investment in Epic during 2024.

While Epic has previously integrated AI into Fortnite, this new initiative suggests a broader reliance on automated tools for production. The move aligns with CEO Tim Sweeney’s perspective that AI will be integral to nearly all future game development, despite the company facing recent workforce reductions.
