Key information
Epic Games has officially announced its intention to bring the popular title Fortnite to the Linux platform. While the game is not currently available on the operating system, the company is actively working toward this goal through its Epic Games Launcher.
The primary obstacle to this release has been concerns regarding anti-cheat security. Previously, CEO Tim Sweeney expressed doubts about combating cheating across diverse kernel configurations. To address this, Epic is developing a new iteration of its Easy Anti-Cheat service, dubbed EAC Linux v2.
Engineering director Rick Deist confirmed that Epic intends to pilot this updated anti-cheat solution within Fortnite first. The company is collaborating with distribution maintainers to meet necessary security requirements before a wider rollout. Once these improvements are finalized, they will also be made available to other developers.
Regarding compatibility, Epic is investigating support for Valve’s SteamOS, though there are no plans to list the game on the Steam store. Furthermore, the Steam Deck currently lacks the features required for the EAC v2 solution, though Epic remains in discussions with Valve regarding potential future support.
At this time, Epic has not provided a specific timeline for when the Linux version of Fortnite will be released to the public.
