Key information
Czech developer Amanita Design has officially confirmed the development of Machinarium 2. The sequel brings back the robots Josef and Berta, following the original title released in 2009.
The narrative begins after the characters flee the city of Machinarium and crash in an arid region. Players will navigate a valley featuring two mechanical factions, the monastery of Elektrona and the city of Oilton, while dealing with an energy shortage.
Gameplay introduces solo cooperation, allowing players to switch between Josef and Berta to combine their unique abilities for puzzle-solving. The game retains the text-free storytelling style of the first entry, utilizing animated comic bubbles and gestures. While designed for controller-based movement, the title also supports traditional mouse controls.
The game features hand-drawn environments inspired by Renaissance landscape painting and a soundtrack by Tomáš Dvořák. Although no release date is set, the game is available for wishlisting on Steam for Windows and macOS.
