Key information
The cost of video games remains a contentious subject as companies seek higher revenues while players advocate for reasonable prices, with major projects currently establishing a symbolic barrier starting around 80 euros. Anticipation surrounded Rockstar Games and their upcoming title GTA 6 regarding potential price increases, though Take-Two ultimately established an 80-euro standard edition for the game.
Martin Klima, co-founder of Warhorse Studios and executive producer of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, recently discussed pricing in an interview with PC Gamer, noting that he personally does not plan to play GTA 6. Despite stating that the immense popularity of the Rockstar project escapes him, Klima expressed a desire for the game to succeed.
Addressing the high production costs of modern video games, Klima pointed out that audience growth has nearly reached its peak and digital storefronts are already yielding maximum performance per unit sold. Consequently, he suggested that increasing the cost of video games is viewed as a necessary path, though he acknowledged that any studio taking that step would face extreme controversy and potential community backlash.
