Key information
Atari and Retro Games Ltd. have announced THE 800XL, a full-sized replica of the iconic 1983 home computer. Developed in collaboration with Retro Games and distributed by Plaion Replai, this device aims to modernize the classic 8-bit experience while maintaining the original aesthetic.
The unit features a fully functional mechanical keyboard capable of running Atari BASIC. It includes a cartridge slot compatible with original Atari 400, 800, XL, and XE software. Users can also load programs via USB or utilize software designed for the Atari 5200 console.
Modern enhancements include HDMI output, four USB ports, and display filters that emulate vintage CRT televisions. Gameplay features allow for saving progress across four slots per title and a 30-second rewind function to correct mistakes. The package comes with THECXSTICK, an eight-button joystick, alongside necessary cables.
THE 800XL launches in Spain on April 23, 2027, priced at 219,99 euros. It arrives pre-installed with 25 classic games, including titles such as Asteroids, Missile Command, and M.U.L.E. Pre-orders for the device are currently available.
