Key information
Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, revealed that he advocated internally for a physical disk edition of the game's trilogy conclusion. Despite his efforts, the physical version will only contain the beginning of the adventure on the disk, functioning as a key disk that requires players to connect to the internet and download the remaining data.
While Hamaguchi acknowledges that the final decision regarding commercial editions rests with the publishing team rather than his development role, he personally defended the physical release and engaged in negotiations with console manufacturers. Recognizing player criticism about incomplete physical games, he stated regarding his advocacy, I did everything I could.
The release arrives amid an industry shift away from physical media, compounded by Sony's announcement to halt disk production for new PlayStation games starting in January 2028. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will launch prior to that transition on April 8, 2027, as the final installment of the remake trilogy, and will be available on PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
