Key information

Rockstar Games has confirmed that currency will play a significantly more vital role in Grand Theft Auto VI compared to previous entries in the franchise. According to Rob Nelson, head of Rockstar North, players will find that accumulating wealth is essential for progressing through specific story missions.

The game mechanics will require players to actively seek out funds through various criminal activities, such as performing heists or stealing vehicles. This financial requirement is tied to the narrative arc of the protagonists, Jason and Lucia, as they work to resolve their current situation throughout the main campaign.

Beyond financial systems, the developer promises an unprecedented level of freedom, allowing players to steal almost anything they encounter. The world is designed to be more unpredictable, featuring non-player characters that react with a level of detail previously unseen in the series.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar Games has not yet announced a version for PC, and the title is positioned as the most immersive evolution of the series to date.
