Key information
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot addressed the future of the Watch Dogs franchise during an annual meeting, assuring investors that the hacking intellectual property remains an important brand for the company going forward despite several years of silence since the 2020 release of Watch Dogs: Legion.
During the meeting, an investor questioned the absence of Watch Dogs within Ubisoft's new operational model consisting of five decentralized Creative Houses. Guillemot stated that the franchise is not currently assigned to a Creative House before it is potentially remade, sparking online discussions about a possible reboot or remake.
However, Game File journalist Stephen Totilo clarified on X that Guillemot's translated remarks should not be taken literally as a remake tease. According to Totilo, the response simply conveyed that the company has not worked on Watch Dogs for a while and is not prioritizing it right now.
Meanwhile, the live-action Watch Dogs movie project, produced in association with Regency Enterprises, has also remained quiet since filming began two years ago. Despite the lack of recent updates, lead star Tom Blyth stated last April that the film is not abandoned and still holds reasons to believe in its eventual release.
