Key information
Startup Efferon is addressing the high mortality rate of pediatric sepsis, which affects approximately 3 million children under five every year. The company, recognized as part of the Startup Battlefield 200 at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026, aims to reduce organ failure and improve recovery outcomes through specialized medical technology.
The device functions by filtering blood to remove toxins and cytokines when standard antibiotic treatments prove insufficient. CEO Dima Romashin explains that while sepsis acts like a fire, the device uniquely absorbs both endotoxins and cytokines simultaneously, distinguishing it from other market alternatives.
Designed for the specific physiological needs of children, the Efferon NEO device accounts for lower circulating blood volumes. In April, the product secured a CE mark, establishing it as the first multimodal blood purification tool tailored for pediatric sepsis cases.
Currently utilized in intensive care units across 30 countries, including Thailand and Saudi Arabia, the company is now pursuing FDA approval. Efferon anticipates reaching $2 million in annualized revenue by the end of 2026 as it continues to commercialize technology originally developed at Moscow State University.
