Key information

Irdeto subsidiary Denuvo has applied to a federal court in California for subpoenas directed at Discord, Valve, and Reddit. The anti-tamper and digital rights management software developer is attempting to uncover the true identity of an anonymous game cracker known as voices38.

Denuvo asserts that voices38 has bypassed its protection measures across multiple titles, including Hogwarts Legacy and Black Myth Wukong. The firm argues that these actions, which involved sharing information on platforms like Reddit soon after game launches, have harmed its commercial interests.

Because the individual has concealed their identity, Denuvo cannot determine whether voices38 is a single person or a group. Although Denuvo contacted Discord, Valve, and Reddit prior to filing its request, Valve and Reddit declined to share user details citing privacy policies and a lack of legal framework, while Discord did not respond.

If the court grants approval, Valve must disclose registration data, billing addresses, payment methods, transaction histories, IP addresses, and device identifiers for specified Steam accounts. Discord and Reddit would also be required to provide account details, server memberships, posts, comments, and community subscriptions associated with the target.
