Key information

According to an exclusive interview between Love Magazine and Rockstar Games, the developer of Grand Theft Auto VI goes to great lengths to gather reference material for the title. Aaron Garbut, Head of Development at Rockstar Games, explained that the team regularly conducts research trips for new games to spark exploration and creative ideas.

For the new GTA game, a small group from Rockstar travelled from Miami through various surrounding cities and onward from Florida Keys to Key West. Garbut noted that team members spent their days driving together, discussing immersive in-game locations, and capturing footage using mobile phones and cameras.

The field research extended deeper as the developers met with locals, police officers, and local gang members to hear stories and study the area. Garbut described the locals as generally friendly despite some intimidating individuals, noting that the experience allowed the team to encounter the darker side of Florida alongside some of the kindest people.

Armed with these details, locations, and stories gathered during their Florida travels, the GTA VI developer aims to translate those experiences into the game world and present interesting surprises to players.
