Key information
The original Destiny, previously restricted to consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One, is currently the subject of a fan-led initiative to bring the title to PC. Known as Project Golden Age, this effort has managed to run portions of the game on PC, drawing attention from Bungie leadership.
YouTuber Flummoxed demonstrated the project's progress, showcasing gameplay running at 4K resolution and exceeding 60fps. The build features an expanded field of view compared to the original console versions, though the current state of the project still exhibits minor physics and rendering imperfections.
Josh Deane, Bungie's studio head of product and Marathon general manager, publicly commented on the footage via X. While Deane's remark was lighthearted, observers caution against interpreting this as an official endorsement or a sign of a formal revival, noting the potential for future legal intervention.
The project utilizes techniques that reconstruct the game by analyzing client and server communications, a method previously seen in community efforts to preserve online titles. Despite the technical achievement, industry analysts suggest that Bungie's current focus remains on Destiny 2 and Marathon, making an official PC release unlikely.
