Key information
Developer Terkel Gjervig, known on X as @terkelg for designing various compact software tools and apps, has introduced a new creation called Desktop Cleaning designed to hide computer desktop clutter.
The utility generates a virtual rug on the computer desktop that covers up messy files and shortcuts, utilizing an out-of-sight, out-of-mind approach to tidy the workspace.
The rug can be resized, rotated, and features dynamic cloth physics that show deformation and wrinkles when dragged, requiring users to adjust the corners to flatten it.
Users can also lift a section of the rug to access hidden files just like in reality, and then cover them back up afterward.
Desktop Cleaning is currently showcased as a concept prototype, though Gjervig confirmed plans for official production and launched a dedicated website for interested users to sign up for early notifications.
