Key information

Denuvo has initiated legal proceedings to uncover the identity of a hacker operating under the pseudonym 'voices38'. The company filed a lawsuit last September, alleging that this individual successfully bypassed its anti-piracy software in 26 different PC video games.

The firm is requesting a federal judge in California to authorize subpoenas for Valve, Discord, and Reddit. Denuvo aims to obtain personal data including real names, billing addresses, payment methods, transaction histories, and IP addresses linked to seven Steam accounts, one Discord user, and one Reddit account associated with the suspect.

Denuvo previously attempted to acquire this information directly from the platforms. Valve and Reddit declined, citing privacy policies that require a court order, while Discord reportedly did not respond to the request. The investigation has also identified cryptocurrency transactions involving Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana linked to the individual.

The legal pressure appears to be impacting the piracy community. The group DenuvOwO, known for creating tools to circumvent the protection, announced its dissolution, citing concerns regarding these ongoing legal actions. The court's decision on the subpoenas remains pending.
