Key information
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has sparked ongoing discussions regarding its extensive inclusion of minigames. While some players find the quality of these activities inconsistent, director Naoki Hamaguchi suggests that the quantity of these additions is not the primary concern for the development team.
Hamaguchi explained to EDGE magazine that his core philosophy is to ensure the remake trilogy offers a gaming experience as rich as the original title. He emphasizes that the decision to include these features is his responsibility, focusing on what gameplay style best fits the specific title rather than debating the total number of minigames.
The director further noted that the team prioritizes usability and ensuring players enjoy these activities without unnecessary stress. The goal is for users to engage with minigames by choice rather than feeling forced to participate, which Hamaguchi believes is more critical than simply adjusting the volume of content.
Currently, most minigames in the title remain optional. While high-difficulty challenges offer rewards like consumables or character weapons, they are generally not required to progress through the main story, allowing players to bypass content that does not interest them.
