Key information
New ESRB ratings suggest that Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition are slated for updated releases on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. These listings indicate potential performance enhancements for the titles, mirroring the recent upgrades provided to Mafia: Definitive Edition.
The previous update for Mafia: Definitive Edition increased performance to 60 FPS on current-generation consoles. On Xbox Series X, the resolution reached 1440p, while the Xbox Series S version operated at approximately 1080p, effectively removing the previous 30 FPS cap.
Technical limitations previously hindered physical disc owners from accessing the free upgrade for the first game, as the necessary recognition feature was absent. It remains uncertain if Take-Two Interactive will implement a different distribution method for these potential sequels to ensure physical owners gain access.
Take-Two Interactive has not provided an official announcement or release date for these upgrades. Meanwhile, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can currently purchase the Mafia: The Omertà Collection, which includes all three Definitive Editions and Mafia: The Old Country, at a 50% discount.
