Key information

PC Gamer has initiated the second round of its community tournament to determine the greatest first-person shooter mode of all time. Following a first round that saw over 7,000 votes cast across five days, eight winners have advanced to the current bracket.

The tournament features a variety of classic and modern modes. Notable results from the initial matchups include Team Deathmatch securing 75% of the vote against Deathmatch, while Capture the Flag dominated its category with 91%. Other advancing modes include Battle Royale, Conquest, Bomb Defusal, Payload, Infection, and Attack & Defend.

Staff reactions to the results were mixed. One editor expressed disappointment over the elimination of Extraction, citing its high-stakes nature, while another noted surprise at King of the Hill's early defeat, describing it as an archetypal shooter mode. Additionally, staff members lamented the lack of a prominent modern Capture the Flag game despite the mode's popularity.

Round 2 matchups include Team Deathmatch versus Battle Royale, Conquest versus Bomb Defusal, Payload versus Infection, and Capture the Flag versus Attack & Defend. Voting for this round remains open until Monday, October 12 at 11:59 PM PDT.
