Key information
Creator Kenji Kanno returned to the Crazy Taxi franchise to discuss the upcoming title, World Tour, during the BGS 2026 event. Originally revealed at The Game Awards 2023, the game features a new map inspired by Rio de Janeiro and was available for public testing at the convention.
Development focused on balancing the series' legacy with new innovations by integrating a diverse team of developers. Kanno emphasized that maintaining the chaotic tone of the original 1999 title was essential, ensuring mechanics like braking and launching vehicles remained central to the experience.
The game introduces varied mission types, including speed competitions and drift challenges, designed to encourage creative gameplay. Kanno noted that the team prioritized imaginative ideas for these missions, while map design was tailored to reflect iconic elements of global locations, such as the contrast between nature and urban environments in the Rio de Janeiro map.
During the event, Kanno expressed interest in the Brazilian television character Agostinho Carrara, a taxicab driver whose style he found unique. Regarding the soundtrack, Kanno confirmed the team composed original music to capture the atmosphere of each region, though specific details remain unannounced. The game is scheduled for release in 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X and Series S.
