Key information
Project Zomboid has remained in early access since 2013, captivating players with its realistic post-apocalyptic simulation by The Indie Stone. Despite its long development, the base game has notably lacked non-playable characters to drive emergent gameplay and narrative layers.
To address this absence, fans have created a modification called Project A-Life. The mod introduces 135 different factions to the isometric RPG, ranging from escaped prisoners and families to trappers and military remnants. While some NPCs are friendly and open to conversation or assistance, others will attack and steal items.
Named after the system used in the STALKER franchise, the mod features NPCs that remember previous interactions and possess advanced routines rather than basic behaviors. These characters do not simply populate an empty map; they operate from bases that include small fortified houses and armed outposts, actively pursuing goals and influencing the world off-screen.
Project A-Life is currently available on the Steam Workshop with a five-star community rating. It is compatible with multiplayer and offers a compelling way to simulate an online Project Zomboid experience for players without a populated server or group of friends.
