Key information
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has detailed Microsoft's upcoming next-generation hardware strategy, describing the initiative known as Project Helix as a comprehensive family of devices rather than a single console. The details emerged from a leaked internal memo sent to employees and obtained by Windows Central, following earlier hints provided by Sharma at Gamescom earlier this year.
In the leaked memorandum, Sharma stated that the company is transitioning to a device family for Gen-10, noting that a single device cannot serve every user. While confirming that a great console will come first, Sharma acknowledged players who are on the move and mentioned that Microsoft will handle some manufacturing directly while pursuing partnerships for others, alongside development on a new operating system.
This hardware approach aligns with Microsoft's recent generation strategy, which previously launched both the Xbox Series X and the more affordable Xbox Series S, alongside a partnership with Asus last year for the ROG Xbox Ally X handheld PC.
