Key information

Amid celebrations for the Resident Evil 30th anniversary, executive producer Jun Takeuchi revealed future plans for the Resident Evil series, highlighting two development tracks. Numbered titles let players experience ongoing stories, while the remake series lets them experience the past. Capcom began its major remake project in 2019 with Resident Evil 2, followed by Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4, with Code: Veronica scheduled next.

According to Takeuchi, the remake series will eventually catch up with the era of the numbered titles. Capcom has been gradually preparing for this crossover since around Resident Evil Village, utilizing elements such as the return of Raccoon City in Requiem and references to Umbrella and Spencer. Takeuchi noted that Resident Evil 7 served as a turning point where the studio began working on this setup, which was further expanded in Village and Requiem due to positive user expectations.

Remakes act as the backbone for Capcom's success by providing financial resources for new Resident Evil games and standalone ideas like Pragmata. With Capcom releasing a remake once every two years, the current schedule of remaking older titles buys the studio about 12 years.
