Key information

Capcom is working to evolve its proprietary RE Engine into an advanced AI-generation game platform through a major initiative known as the REX Project.

Programmer Satoshi Ishida detailed the overarching strategy at the Capcom Open Conference RE:2026 event on 2nd October, noting that the technology has powered nearly 30 company releases since its 2017 debut.

Ishida explained that expanding project scopes, slower iteration times, and a growing user base of over 2,000 developers necessitated integrating artificial intelligence directly into the creation pipeline.

To address these challenges, the REX Project introduces several technical systems, including the RE:Dox data standardization framework, the RE:UI development tool, RE:Log ID tracking, RE:Flows visual scripting, RE:Runtime batch processing, and RE:C++.

The long-term objective is for AI to comprehend and produce code, execute automated bug testing, and allow staff to build titles alongside automated systems, while Capcom previously assured investors that human creativity remains central to its projects.
