Key information

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has officially announced a new multiplayer mode titled Collateral, drawing direct inspiration from competitive tactical first-person shooters like Counter-Strike and Valorant. According to Activision's official blog post, the mode utilizes a round-based structure featuring single lives per round and two teams competing across attack and defense scenarios over two bomb sites. Players begin each round equipped only with a pistol rather than custom loadouts.

Participants earn currency by eliminating enemies and fulfilling objectives, which can then be spent between rounds on stronger weaponry, armor, perks, and additional equipment such as Flash Grenades, Molotovs, Stims, Riot Shields, and Smoke Walls. Infinity Ward designed the mode to cater to competitive players seeking a tactical shooter experience.

The economy system introduces strategic depth while removing traditional Call of Duty mechanics such as respawns, Killstreaks, automatic health regeneration, and custom loadouts. A Team Buy option is also included to collectively purchase UAVs, though full specifics remain undisclosed.

Collateral represents Infinity Ward's initiative to attract fans of tactical gameplay into the franchise. The mode is scheduled to be available immediately when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026.
