Key information
A developer identified as EpicNNG on YouTube and X has announced the completion of a project to revive Borderlands Online, a China-exclusive MMO that was cancelled in 2015 before its official launch.
Released for free on October 4, 2026, on a dedicated website, the playable game is the result of over a year of collaborative work by the developer and community members utilizing a leaked build.
Transforming the leaked files into a functional state required extensive restoration, translation, and UI customization. Because the original title was designed for Chinese characters, the team rebuilt user interfaces and loading screens from scratch to maintain visual quality, while also adjusting enemy and NPC behaviors.
The revived MMO includes online servers with account and login functionality, alongside an offline game mode included in case the project is shut down. Although publishers Gearbox and 2K Games are reportedly aware of the release, no legal action has been taken yet, though the fear of potential enforcement motivated the team to offer the game for free and maintain relative silence.
