Key information
Blumhouse Productions has officially entered a partnership with YouTube personality Matthew ‘MatPat’ Patrick to produce a series of feature films based on popular indie horror games. The collaboration was formally announced during New York Comic Con 2026, marking a significant expansion of the studio's interest in viral digital horror content.
The inaugural project under this new deal is an adaptation of Amanda the Adventurer. The original title is a first-person puzzle game centered on the dark secrets behind a low-budget children's television program. MatPat described the narrative as horror with heart, focusing on the tragic nature of the titular character and the unsettling implications of media consumption for children.
Development for the film is currently underway, with the team actively negotiating with potential writers and directors. MatPat noted that the production is moving quickly to bring the project to the big screen. This initiative follows a broader industry trend of adapting viral internet horror, such as the recent success of the Backrooms film and Markiplier’s Iron Lung adaptation.
While Amanda the Adventurer is the first confirmed title, the partnership intends to develop multiple projects. The collaboration highlights the growing influence of online horror creators in mainstream cinema, with speculation already circulating regarding which other viral indie games might receive similar treatment in the future.
