Vanillaware and Marvelous Entertainment have announced Muramasa: Revenant Blades, a 4K-remastered version of the classic action-RPG, scheduled for a worldwide release on February 4, 2027. The title will launch on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC, marking Vanillaware's first release on the PC platform.

The game features 2D side-scrolling combat set in Edo period Japan, where players control six distinct protagonists, including Momohime and Kisuke. Combat mechanics involve managing a vast arsenal of 100 forgeable swords, each with unique skills like Haze Splitter and Moonslash. Players must strategically swap weapons to allow damaged blades to heal while managing cooldowns for powerful combat abilities.

A hands-on preview noted the game's fast-paced action, depth in fighting styles, and high-quality artwork. The reviewer praised the responsive controls and visual feedback during combat, while highlighting the detailed, mouth-watering depictions of in-game food. The remaster includes a new English-language voiceover, a training mode, and additional activities like fishing and hot-springs.

Beyond the base game, the release includes all six character stories from the start. Physical editions are available for consoles, with a Limited Edition offering an art book, a soundtrack CD, and a folding byōbu screen. The Switch 2 version will contain the full game on the cartridge.
