The latest trailer for Battlefield 6 Season 5 features a surprising tease that suggests a crossover with the Dead Space franchise. While showcasing a new Las Vegas map, the footage transitions from intense combat to a scene depicting two engineers observing The Marker, the iconic alien artifact from the survival horror series.
Season 5 introduces three new maps, including Area 51 and the Vegas Strip, alongside six weapons and two vehicles. Players can access the new Vegas content starting October 13. Regarding the potential crossover, Reddit users have identified possible Dead Space-themed skins, which are rumored to arrive during the October Halloween update.
This development contrasts with previous statements from Dice developers, who claimed the game would avoid immersion-breaking cosmetics. However, EA has established a precedent for such crossovers, having previously released a Dead Space skin for Skate that cost $40. That specific offering faced criticism from players regarding both its quality and high price point.
Despite the 2023 Dead Space remake receiving a 9/10 score from IGN, series writer Chuck Beaver noted that high production costs make future installments difficult to justify. Beaver suggested that a new entry would need to sell over 10 million copies to be viable, a significant challenge for the horror genre.
