Key information
Kunos Simulazioni has unveiled a detailed look at the upcoming Free Roam mode for Assetto Corsa EVO. While a specific launch date for this feature remains unannounced, the developer is focusing on an authentic 1:1 scale recreation of the Eifel region in Germany, which includes the iconic Nürburgring circuit.
The open world environment features roads, villages, monuments, and various points of interest surrounding the Nordschleife. Kunos plans to expand this map incrementally over time. The simulation incorporates dynamic weather, a day/night cycle, and AI-managed traffic that reflects local driving habits, with every road and intersection modeled to match real-world dimensions.
Players can experience this mode in both solo and multiplayer sessions. Beyond casual exploration, the game will offer optional activities such as Time Attack challenges. Marco Massarutto, co-founder of Kunos Simulazioni, described the development as an intense challenge that pushed the studio's technological limits to achieve high visual fidelity.
Assetto Corsa EVO is currently available in Steam Early Access. The full 1.0 release, which will include console versions, is targeted for the first half of 2027. A playable version of the Free Roam mode will be showcased at the Sim Racing Expo in Frankfurt from October 16 to 18.
