Key information
Ananta, developed by NetEase, offers players an expansive experience with limitless possibilities, according to global publishing lead Link and international marketing lead Rain. During a hands-on preview session lasting 45 minutes at Gamescom, the reviewer explored two distinct locations that showcased the game's massive scope and variety.
The title features contrasting settings, ranging from a slower, traditional country town where players can ride motorbikes and complete tasks for local NPCs, to a fast-paced, New York-inspired modern city. In the urban setting, gameplay includes intense hand-to-hand combat, cinematic quick time events, gunplay, and fighting enemies using Venom-style extendable arms.
The reviewer highlighted the city traversal as the single most impressive element, noting that swinging between buildings and launching from grapple points feels identical to Insomniac's Spider-Man games. The author praised the fluid movement and character animations while expressing a personal hope that the numerous mechanics will not overwhelm the narrative.
The development team stated that the game draws inspiration from their daily lives and real-world elements, while also fulfilling fantasies of actions impossible in reality. Following its scheduled January 2027 launch, NetEase plans to continuously expand the title by adding new locations and characters.
