AMD has announced intentions to integrate its FSR 4 upscaling technology into handheld PC hardware. According to Jack Huynh, an executive at AMD, the company is developing a two-pronged strategy to implement this feature by the end of 2026. This includes designing new APUs with native FSR 4 support and creating a specialized version compatible with existing integrated graphics chips.

The upcoming FSR 4 technology aims to provide improved visual clarity compared to previous iterations like FSR 3.1. While the technology may offer a smaller performance increase in Quality mode, its enhanced visual fidelity could potentially make lower-resolution settings, such as Performance or Ultra Performance, more viable for handheld displays.

Support for specific handheld devices remains uncertain. While RDNA 3-based chips are expected to receive support this year, the Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED, which utilize RDNA 2 architecture, face a longer timeline. AMD previously indicated that bringing FSR 4 to RDNA 2 might not occur until 2027, as the technology has higher hardware requirements.
