Key information

AMD CEO Lisa Su stated in Taipei on Tuesday that the company will substantially increase its chip supply by 2027. Although supply has grown throughout 2026, demand continues to outpace shipments, with Su noting that very high demand will persist for the next several years and that the company requires additional advanced wafer capacity.

During her third trip to Taiwan this year, Su met with partners including Foxconn, Quanta, Acer, and ASUS, with a scheduled visit to TSMC and upcoming meetings with memory suppliers Samsung and SK Hynix in South Korea. While she did not provide a specific numerical figure for the upcoming supply increase, she mentioned that AMD has shifted its capacity planning horizon from one to two years out to three to five years.

Su highlighted that high demand affects CPUs alongside AI accelerators. In addition to wafers, she emphasized that CoWoS and advanced packaging are absolutely critical for high-performance chips. Following a May commitment of over $10 billion to its Taiwan supply chain, Su indicated that this investment figure will grow, though it remains unconfirmed if consumer Ryzen or Radeon products will receive any of the extra supply.
