Key information

Pimax has introduced the Spation, a new mini PC designed for living room gaming that supports SteamOS. The device is positioned as a powerful alternative to traditional gaming laptops, specifically targeting high-end PC VR experiences in a compact form factor.

The hardware specifications include a Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor paired with either an RX 9070 XT or RTX 5070 Ti graphics card. It features 32 GB of DDR5 memory, a 1 TB SSD, and a 1000 W SFX power supply, alongside connectivity options like Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.

The internal layout utilizes a Mini-ITX motherboard and a PCIe riser cable for the GPU. While the design appears efficient, concerns remain regarding thermal performance and airflow. Pimax intends to offer a barebones kit, allowing users to install their own components.

Pimax plans to support both Windows and SteamOS, though the company notes that Nvidia GPU compatibility on Linux remains an ongoing process. Pimax has not yet disclosed pricing or a specific launch date for the Spation.
