Key information
An AI-generated browser game titled Fallout: New York has reportedly been hit with a cease and desist notice from ZeniMax, the parent company of Bethesda. The creator, posting on Twitter under the handle CHRIS FIRST, stated that the project was built using Anthropic technology.
According to the creator, the browser project featured systems such as dialogue trees, quests, V.A.T.S., and a Pip-Boy. The developer claimed that zero texture or sound files were used, with code generating buildings, weapons, and sounds.
The project drew criticism for its silly putty-ish non-player character faces and overall aesthetic. The prompter maintained that the creation was free and generated zero earnings, expressing hope that legal action would not happen.
Following the alleged legal notice involving the fallout.nyc domain name, the creator told Bethesda to make their own game instead. Meanwhile, the publication recommended the human-made mod Fallout: London as an alternative.
