Key information
The developer of Teach My Little Sister How to Drive, a simulation game featuring a generative-AI-powered NPC, is currently spending $1,000 daily to maintain its public demo. This financial strain follows a twentyfold increase in player count over the last month, which significantly escalated operating costs.
Easy Fox, the development team behind the project, confirmed they secured a bank loan to cover these rising expenses. The game relies on constant queries to AI models like ChatGPT and Google Gemini to facilitate dynamic interactions, where the NPC reacts to and occasionally disobeys player instructions.
To mitigate costs, the team is exploring the integration of local AI models for users with sufficiently capable hardware. While the developers intend to include expected AI usage costs in the final retail price, they warned that the current financial pressure might force them to close the demo prematurely.
The demo, which launched in February, gained significant traction following interest from streamers. While the title has found popularity in Asian markets, the developers remain a small team of four navigating the high costs associated with generative AI token consumption.
