Electronic Arts and developer Full Circle have clarified their stance on community modifications for the early access title skate. While the studio encourages creative expression and player-driven content within the San Vansterdam sandbox, they have explicitly prohibited tools that circumvent their systems to access paid microtransactions or unreleased assets.
This clarification follows the rapid popularity of the ReSkate modding platform, which garnered 350,000 downloads shortly after release. ReSkate allows users to play the game offline with custom maps and servers, though its creators stated they do not intend to replace the official live service or provide free access to premium cosmetics.
The developer emphasized that bypassing monetization systems negatively impacts the development team and external partners, including skate brands and artists. Despite these concerns, Full Circle has not taken direct action against ReSkate or general creative modding efforts, though they have promised to introduce more robust official community tools in the future.
The game, available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, has faced criticism regarding its microtransactions and paywalled content. Following staff layoffs earlier this year, the title currently holds a Mixed rating on Steam, despite a generally positive reception in early access reviews.
