Key information
Modder EpicNNG has announced that the cancelled Chinese MMO Borderlands Online is now fully playable and translated into English, marking a major milestone after a year of work. The title was originally released only in China before being sunsetted in 2015 prior to getting off the ground, but EpicNNG previously succeeded in bringing it back into working order in a barebones state.
Although the shooter MMO is now much more functional, the developer warns that the current state should be treated as a playtest. Players jumping into the game can expect bugs, server outages, broken skills, and other general inconveniences. To accommodate English-speaking users, the UI elements have been adjusted and custom icons were created in Photoshop.
The project has already attracted over 3,500 in-game players, and EpicNNG has reached out to Gearbox's Randy Pitchford regarding the preservation effort. The modder stated that they will comply if approached with a cease-and-desist letter from Gearbox or Take-Two, though no such action has stopped the project yet.
