Key information
Kodansha Game Creators' Lab announced that the neo-nostalgic horror adventure game 1999 Tokoyo Building will launch on November 10 for PC via Steam. The story follows an amnesiac boy named Akira Hiruyuki who, after being caught attempting a burglary, is forced to work for free at a dilapidated indoor amusement park where people reportedly vanish.
Gameplay features point-and-click exploration where players use Akira's lockpicking skills to infiltrate the private rooms of dangerous coworkers, including a grumpy fortune teller, a cynical aquarium keeper, and a self-proclaimed charismatic villain. Players must uncover the secrets of these characters to survive and escape the facility.
The narrative unfolds through exploration and novel-style segments. Exploration takes place in low-polygon, 360-degree environments, while dialogue sequences utilize Live2D to animate character expressions. Choices made during interactions significantly impact outcomes, with certain decisions potentially leading to immediate dead ends.
Developed by the team Tokoyo Fudosan, this title marks their debut project. A free demo containing the first chapter, offering approximately two hours of gameplay, is currently available on Steam. Additionally, original merchandise is planned through Animate.
