Key information
The Verge journalist Tom Warren confirmed that Xbox has secured the exclusive cloud streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto VI, meaning the open-world game from Rockstar Games will only be available via Xbox Cloud Gaming in the cloud. However, it remains unconfirmed whether this is a timed exclusivity or how long it will last.
Playing the title through the cloud allows users to access it on compatible devices such as Xbox Series X|S, PC, tablets, or mobiles using a controller without installation. Microsoft recommends specific network speeds, while noting that performance depends on network stability, latency, and the hardware used.
Cloud gaming will feature monthly hourly limits for Game Pass members, offering five hours for Essential, ten for Premium, and fifteen for Ultimate subscribers. Users who exceed their monthly limit can purchase additional streaming time on the Xbox Store, and non-subscribers will also be able to buy hours to stream games they own.
The game itself is scheduled to launch on current-generation consoles on November 19, requiring players to purchase a copy separately even to play via streaming. In addition to buying the title, cloud users will face these newly introduced hourly restrictions and potential extra costs.
