Key information

Double Fine Productions has chosen to leave its platform holder to step out once again as an independent developer. As part of this re-independence, the studio revived its traditional internal game jam, Amnesia Fortnight, utilizing crowdfunding to reconnect with its creative roots.

Led by Tim Schafer, the studio is known for launching titles with unique worldviews and humor. Facing industry shifts and structural changes, the team reached an agreement with Microsoft to depart from the major publisher's umbrella and prioritize creative independence, which involved difficult staff reductions.

The Amnesia Fortnight 2026 project partnered with the video team 2 Player Productions via Kickstarter, gathering support from over 8300 backers. Out of 26 pitches submitted internally, backers voted on four prototypes to be developed during a two-week period in September.

The selected prototypes include a tactical strategy game blending architecture with turn-based battles, a humorous bard adventure, a meta-action adventure featuring plot armor mechanics, and a crowd-control adventure themed around rebellion against oppression.
