Key information
Richard Bronson, an entrepreneur who previously served time in federal prison, has launched a startup called Commissary Club. Drawing from his own post-incarceration struggles with employment, Bronson created this platform to support individuals reentering society.
The platform functions as an employment-focused social media site that utilizes AI to assist users in navigating housing and job searches. Beyond professional resources, the site includes a social component designed to foster community among users, and it also serves as a referral network that allows members to find dates.
Commissary Club operates on a for-profit model, which Bronson acknowledges may be a difficult sell for those recently released from prison. Users receive their first 10 applications for free, after which they can purchase bundles of 10 applications for $149 or pay $14.99 for each individual application.
The startup is currently managed by a two-person team, including Bronson and co-founder Roman Kissin. The project has been selected for the Startup Battlefield 200 competition, scheduled to take place at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco.
