Key information
Amanita Design has officially announced a sequel to its classic title, Machinarium, 17 years after the original game's release. CEO Jakub Dvorský explained that the decision to revisit the project was driven by a sense of urgency, noting that the team is not getting younger and the world feels like it is ending.
The sequel continues the story of Josef and Berta, who crash-land in a hidden valley after escaping their previous city. The game features two robot tribes, the Elektrona monastery and the city of Oilton, both struggling with dwindling power. Mechanically, the game retains the series' signature point-and-click style, but introduces a new cooperative element where players can swap between controlling Josef and Berta at will.
Composer Tomáš Dvořák, known as Floex, is returning to create the soundtrack. Dvořák aims for a more melodic and mature sound, reflecting his own growth over the years. While he finds it challenging to avoid comparing his new work to the original, he emphasizes that the visual environment of the game naturally influences his creative process.
Machinarium 2 currently lacks a specific release date. However, the game is available for wishlisting on Steam and GOG. Amanita Design is also offering discounts on its previous titles, including the original Machinarium, until October 15.
