Key information
Rockstar Games has shared new gameplay features for Grand Theft Auto 6 through an IGN interview with co-studio head Rob Nelson, showcasing complex mechanics ahead of the game's launch.
The open world encourages exploration through wacky encounters, such as a dumpster man offering legal advice, and location-specific shop goodies like hairstyles. Unlike past titles, GTA 6 restricts initial vehicle access and ties story progression to gathering cash.
The Wanted system now features hollowed-out stars indicating alerted authorities who do not yet know the culprit. Quests offer multiple solutions and route options, while dual protagonists Jason and Lucia can stick together for firepower or separate to reduce heat.
NPCs react dynamically to player presence by asking friendly questions, walking away, or becoming aggressive if players get too close. Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on Nov. 19.
