Key information

Developed by Konami and Evil Empire, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is set to release on October 15. This title marks the first mainline entry in 12 years, following 2014's Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. Set in 1499 Paris, players control Rose Belmont, daughter of Trevor and Sypha, as she battles Dracula using tarot cards and various weapons.

The game returns to traditional 2D gameplay, featuring complex platforming and puzzle-solving. Players must utilize abilities like the Arcana Whip, Holy Light, and double jumps to navigate environments and locate boss clues. Combat is described as high-difficulty, requiring precise movement and parrying, with a style reminiscent of Dead Cells rather than classic entries.

Reviewer assessments highlight the robust, expansive map design as a major strength. However, the reviewer noted that weapon and magic systems feel somewhat limited. While seven weapon types exist, they often lack unique mechanical depth beyond stat increases. Additionally, the inability to quickly swap abilities during combat disrupts the flow, and the reviewer found the magic-enhancing Relics to be somewhat underwhelming in terms of build variety.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse will be available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. The standard digital edition is priced at 790 TWD, with a Midnight Edition available for 890 TWD. The game supports 11 languages, including Traditional and Simplified Chinese.
